BETA PHI LAMBDA CHAPTER SEATED IN BEAUTIFUL SAVANNAH, GA
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Phi Lambda Chapter was established on Friday, November 8, 1940, in the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia. During the 1930s, a large number of prominent and notable Alpha brothers resided in the city of Savannah. Collectively, they agreed that a chapter should be established within their community to continue the work of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and continue to make a positive impact on the local community. In 1937, brothers began meeting at Coconut Grove (now Planet Fitness), a night-club opened and operated by Mrs. Mamie Steele Cox and her husband, that featured the sounds of local jazz bands. For more than 80 years, Beta Phi Lambda Chapter has served the Hostess City, and have worked to effect positive social and local change. Beta Phi Lambda proudly calls Savannah home and invests in its community through service, advocacy, and leadership at the national, state, county, and local levels. In addition, this chapter volunteers time and talent to keep Savannah clean and beautiful, increase voter registration, and garner mentorships. In fact, Beta Phi Lambda partners with many local and national programs, such as the Frank Callen Boys and Girls club and March of Dimes, to continue their existing work.
